4 REASONS WE SHOULD GROW RADICALS

Radish is an extremely easy vegetable to grow

Radish is one of the vegetables that children love. From germination to maturity only takes 4-5 weeks. Even if you don’t like eating them, radishes are a great way to get kids involved in gardening. The kids will be excited to see the final results of what they helped plant less than a month ago when they pull it up, be it white radishes, cherry radishes…

Radish can be grown many times a year

Radishes are cold-hardy plants that cannot tolerate weeds or dampness and can produce multiple crops per season due to their ability to mature quickly. They do not need too much care with loose, nutritious soil conditions.

Based on color, size and season, radishes are divided into two types: long red rasish varieties, colorful cherry radish varieties (Spring or summer)  and white radish varieties (winter).

Radish is processed into many delicious dishes

Radishes are delicious raw, but they are also a great vegetable in the oven and in soups and stews for great flavor. Radishes are also a great little vegetable to ferment. When you use salt fermentation to pickle some cherry radishes, cut in half, the colors will blend to create bright pink pickles.

The uses of radishes in life  have been confirmed for a long time. Red radishes contain many powerful antioxidants such as beta carotene, betacyanin, … which are excellent antioxidants that protect health against disease. .

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO GROW RADICALS FROM SEEDS

Choose varieties : Popular varieties are long white radishes, or you can grow mixed-color cherry radishes, melon-flesh radishes, long red radishes… You should choose quality seed packages at seed stores that have reputation to ensure the right type and quality of planting.

Growing conditions:  Radishes should be planted in a place with full sunlight. If radishes are grown in too much shade – or even where neighboring vegetable plants provide shade – they will put all their energy into producing larger leaves.

Like carrots, radishes are mainly grown for their roots. Although the soil needs to be rich in organic matter, it should not be compacted. If your soil is more clay-like, mix in a little sand to loosen it and improve drainage. If your soil is not rich in organic matter, add some aged compost or all-purpose fertilizer to the planting site as soon as the soil has been cleaned.

Radishes like loose, well-drained soil. Cultivate the garden bed to remove rocks or dirt before planting.

Sowing:  It is best to sow radish seeds directly in the garden so as not to affect their roots.

Sow radish seeds directly into the ground about 1-1.5cm, 2.5-5cm apart, rows 15-20cm apart, cover with a thin layer of soil on top, then cover with straw, water to keep moist (make sure Ensure humidity reaches 75 – 80%), seeds will quickly germinate.

When the seedlings grow, thin them to a distance of about 5-10cm. Or you can also make small slits, about 5cm apart and sow each seed 5cm apart (this method helps save seeds but takes time).

Plant every two weeks while the weather is still cool for a continuous harvest of radishes.
