HOW TO PROPERLY CARE FOR AQUARIUM PLANTS

The super attractive benefits that trees bring in terms of feng shui and health always attract us to want to have more trees in our homes. However, you often encounter many problems in the process of caring for the plant even though you have taken care of it correctly according to the instructions, which makes you quite disappointed when you have to watch your beloved potted plant gradually “deteriorate” over time. If so, then the following article is for you. Let’s “pick up” some knowledge to enrich your own tree care experience! First, you should remember that in addition to the plant care instructions that Lo Cat recommends, you also need to “listen” to what your plants need, and cannot apply a single care method to all plants. Because how to take care of a tree depends on the type of tree, temperature, humidity, weather, the location of our tree and many other factors. Many people mistakenly believe that aquatic plants simply need to change the water to survive. In reality, this is not the case. Aquatic plants also require proper research and care techniques for the plants to be healthy and able to grow well. If you own an aquarium plant, please take a few minutes to go through some of the following extremely necessary instructions:

Light

Keep the plant in a cool place with indirect sunlight, avoiding direct wind from the air conditioner. Every day you should move the pot to a sunny spot around 7-10 am in the morning for about 3-4 hours so that the plant will be provided with enough sunlight and grow well. If there is a lack of sunlight, the plant may rot or lose color. Remember not to leave aquatic plants under strong sunlight, as this will cause the water environment to heat up and easily kill the plant.

Water

Water exchange

The interval between water changes should be every 5 days or 1-2 times/week. However, you can flexibly change the water more every 3-5 days in the hot summer, or 7-9 days in the cold rainy season. You should not leave the water in for too long, because the cloudy water will create conditions for fungi and bacteria to multiply, making the plant susceptible to disease and death.

Water used for plants is clean so that plants are not contaminated with toxic substances. Clean water is water without alum, lime, salt, or water containing detergents such as chlorine. If using tap water, collect the water and leave it for about one night or put it in the sun to let the chlorine evaporate. You can use nutrient solutions and bottled spring water because these types of water retain minerals that are good for plants. When cleaning the plant pot, shake gently and completely pour out the old water, clean the glass pot to completely remove dirt. Use a smooth towel to gently wipe from the leaf roll to the leaf tip, being careful to avoid tearing, bruising and breaking the leaves. You should not or rarely lift the roots out of the pot, because every time you lift the roots out of the pot, the roots are easily bumped and scratched, causing bacteria to invade and harm the plant.

Each time you change the water, you only need to pour water to cover the roots, not the trunk, because only the roots can absorb water, the trunk cannot absorb water, so be careful to pour no more than half the amount of water into the pot. In the beginning, you need to pay attention to the plant regularly to detect immediately if the water in the vase is cloudy and has a strange smell. The solution then is to immediately change the water and remove rotten roots, if any, to avoid the spread of root rot. If you place the plant in an air-conditioned room, the humidity is low at this time so you need to add water more often because the water evaporates easily. On hot, dry days, you should also use a mist spray bottle to cool the leaves and make them cleaner.

Add nutrients to water

After emptying the old water, you should add 1-2 drops of aquatic solution or 1-2 B1 tablets so that the plant has nutrients to nourish the plant. This solution needs to be diluted before pouring into the vase. Absolutely do not pour the undiluted solution directly onto the plant roots. Please research carefully before using nutrient solution, if the concentration is too high it will cause the plant to rot and die. If you do not use solution, the plant can still survive in water. However, don’t forget to change the water periodically to ensure there is always enough minerals in the water for the plants to absorb.

Prune trees

Every time you change the water, remember to pay attention and remove any old, yellow or damaged leaves. When the tree grows quickly and the roots are too large, you can use scissors to prune weak, old or damaged roots to stimulate new roots to grow, making the tree healthier.

Clean leaves

Regularly clean the leaves with a soft damp cloth to help the plant grow better and greener. Find more beautiful aquatic plant pots here!
